چکیده

As the demand for low-cost electronic systems increases, increasing wiring density/reducing printed circuit board (PCB) layer count becomes inevitable. This reality limits the PCB routing layer options of high-speed input/output (I/O) signals, making it more difficult to meet the next-generation product’s performance targets. For example, using densely wired microstrip routing on a PCB helps reduce layer count, but microstrip routing suffers from performance degradation due to increased far-end crosstalk (FEXT). “Tabbed lines” have been proposed to reduce or eliminate FEXT. In this paper we will present an introduction to tabbed lines and their application to crosstalk mitigation and impedance management. Following that, simulation results are presented showing improved memory bus performance on densely routed microstrip channels implemented with tabbed lines. Keywords—tabbed line; microstrip; printed circuit board; crosstalk

Signal Transient and Crosstalk Model of Capacitively and Inductively Coupled VLSI Interconnect Lines

Analytical compact form models for the signal transients and crosstalk noise of inductive-effectprominent multi-coupled RLC lines are developed. Capacitive and inductive coupling effects are investigated and formulated in terms of the equivalent transmission line model and transmission line parameters for fundamental modes. The signal transients and crosstalk noise expressions of two coupled li...

Comprehensive Evaluation of Crosstalk and Delay Profiles in VLSI Interconnect Structures with Partially Coupled Lines

In this paper, we present a methodology to explore and evaluate the crosstalk noise and the profile of its variations, and the delay of interconnects through investigation of two groups of interconnect structures in nano scale VLSI circuits. The interconnect structures in the first group are considered to be partially coupled identical lines. In this case, by choosing proper values for differen...

DesignCon 2011 Analysis of Noise to Jitter Transfer in Transceiver PDN and Channels

Jitter behavior has become increasingly critical design considerations for 12Gbps and 28Gbps transceiver devices featuring stringent specification compliance. In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of noise to jitter transfer mechanism, in which two dominant yet distinct jitter causes, power supply noise and signal crosstalk are investigated by phase noise method. The analysis reveals ...

Crosstalk and EMI Noise Investigation for a Coupled Pair of Microstrip Lines (CPMLs) with a Break in Ground Structure (BGS)

Abstract— In this paper, a simple approach has been proposed to determine parameters of CPMLs with BGS. A break or slot in the ground plane raises the impedance of microstrip lines. Firstly, the S-parameters of the transmission lines are obtained using an electromagnetic simulator. Then the L and C values are extracted using circuit modeling approaches. Measurements were performed using a vecto...
